14TH GENERAL MEETING OF BNACWC HELD

Dhaka 11 December 2018: 14th General Meeting of Bangladesh National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention (BNACWC) was held at the Armed Forces Division (AFD), Dhaka Cantonment on Tuesday (11-12-2018).

Chairman, BNACWC and Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division Lieutenant General Md Mahfuzur Rahman chaired the meeting. All members of BNACWC appointed from various Ministries, Organizations and Armed Forces attended the meeting. Preparation of a comprehensive ‘National Implementation Framework’ for the implementation of Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) was given a priority during the meeting. Preparing required numbers of specially equipped and trained teams within Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) for responding against chemical disaster was discussed at length. The forum also discussed the requirement of recruiting female responders in FSCD. Capacity building of our hospitals and related medical management personnel was duly emphasized during the meeting. The necessity of having chemical detection equipment and chemical lab in all land ports, sea/river ports and airports for customs is also highlighted. Members also agreed to start an internship programme in BNACWC for the graduate and post graduate level students in order to prepare them for getting employed in various international CWC related organizations. The meeting ended with a promise of working together for ensuring chemical safety in Bangladesh.
